Legionella bacteria in a water system can lead to a risk of people contracting Legionnaires' disease. This is a serious form of pneumonia that can have fatal consequences.
Legionella grows and multiplies in a building water system. Water containing Legionella can spread in droplets small enough for people to breathe in.
What kills Legionella?
It needs to live in a temperature range of between 20 and 50˚C, above 50˚C it will start to die off. Flushing your system with hot (above 60˚C) water will kill off Legionella.

How to flush your water system to kill Legionella
- Isolate the hot and cold water valve
- Remove cover cap and cover, followed by the valve cartridge. Then insert the blanking plug with the screws provided.
- Turn the hot water valve on only and run the hot water for at least 5min
- Insure all tempered and cold taps are turned on downstream.
- No extra replacement parts required to complete this procedure
